Matomo only starts collecting data after you provide consent via the analytics banner that appears on your first visit.

When you allow analytics, Matomo stores first-party cookies to recognise returning visits and aggregates the resulting metrics for us. Data is hosted in the Matomo Cloud infrastructure managed by Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung GmbH.
